How to become a volunteer
Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and a resident of the library’s legal service area. Volunteers under 18 require permission from a parent or guardian to participate.
Please note: The library is not currently accepting court-ordered community service volunteers. Please contact 23rd District Court or your local court to find out about community service options.
All Volunteer Opportunities Are Filled At This Time. Please Check Back Later.
Orientation programs are scheduled at least once each month. This orientation is required and must be attended before any volunteer assignments can occur. See the upcoming schedule below or contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
If under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian is also expected to attend the orientation program. The Volunteer Orientation is designed to give the volunteer (and their parents, when applicable) insight into our program. This includes: responsibilities, expectations, documentation, schedules, and a tour of the library.
Participants will also fill out and submit a Volunteer Liability Waiver. If under 18 years old, the parent or guardian in attendance will need to sign the Volunteer Liability Waiver.
Applicants will be approved to become volunteers at the discretion of the library. Volunteers serve at will and may be discharged with or without cause or notice by the library director or volunteer coordinator at any time.
Volunteers will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule their shifts and activities. If there is no suitable volunteer service match with the applicant’s skills, interests, or schedule requests, the applicant will be notified. The application will be kept on file for at least one year and the applicant will be contacted if there is an appropriate opening during that time.
